GENERAL INFORMATION AND HABITAT

The American beaver is the largest rodent that exists in North America. This semiaquatic critter is immediately recognizable by its brownish-red fur, large incisors, and massive, flat, paddle-shaped tail. These animals are an essential species in their natural environment, but they can become quite a nuisance to homes and other structures situated closely to bodies of water. Their ability to fell large trees and habit of piling mud in their territory can cause significant damage to your property, causing floods, blocking irrigation, and tarnishing the aesthetic of your home. They live in colonies, so the damage can grow into a more significant problem if left unchecked. They are most often the culprits of the destruction of orchards by chewing down ornamental or fruit trees. This is another animal for which it is strongly advised never to attempt to manage or remove without professional help, as they are extremely territorial and active year-round.
