There are a few different species of squirrels that inhabit Texas. The Southern Flying Squirrel, the Eastern Fox Squirrel, and Eastern Gray Squirrel are 3 of the more prolific. Squirrels prefer to spend their time up in trees. However, they do spend a significant amount of time on the ground and on your roof, where they feed on fallen nuts, fruits, seeds, and plants. Because of their diet, squirrels are particularly interested in garden ornaments such as bird feeders. These little critters are highly intelligent and can circumvent many DIY defenses you may come up with. Squirrels have powerful teeth just like many of their rodent cousins, which make them a threat to electrical wiring, both inside and around your house. During the winter, they are likely to enter your home to take shelter from the harsh environment.
